Madman Comics #5, "Comes The Blast!" is a crossover story featuring an out-of-continuity appearance by Hellboy.

Madman Comics #5 was published January 1995.
Relative to Hellboy comics, "Comes The Blast!" was published between The Wolves of Saint August and The Corpse, though it should be noted that this comic is not in continuity for Hellboy.[1]

Synopsis
Dr. Flem takes Frank and Joe along on a trip to the Wee Isles to visit with his cousin Hagis. The group comes into conflict with Mick Monihan, who has been manipulated to take the mantle of The Blast and kill Frank.
Frank encounters Hellboy, a paranormal investigator who is studying old ritual ruins elsewhere on the island. Though Frank is distrustful of his strange appearance, Joe reassures him that Hellboy is "one of the good guys."
In the denoument, Astroman disguises himself as Frank and lets The Blast destroy him in his place. Hellboy finds Frank, knocked unconscious and stripped of his costume, and returns him to Joe – expressing bemusement at what he has gotten himself involved with.
Trivia
- Both Madman Comics and Hellboy were published under the short-lived "Legend" imprint at Dark Horse Comics.
- Hellboy and Madman were both featured in Dark Horse Insider #27.[2]
- Madman Comics also crossed over with fellow "Legend" series The Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot.
- Madman creator Mike Allred provided an illustration of Hellboy, Abe Sapien, and Frank Einstein for the gallery in the trade paperback edition of Seed of Destruction.
- Hellboy briefly reappears in Madman Atomic Comics #1, visualized alongside several other figures from Frank's past as he attempts to recover from a bout of amnesia.
