Mac is a dog that lived on the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense base in the early 20th century, at first in New Mexico then moving with the agency to Connecticut. In his youth, Hellboy had a fondness for the friendly canine.

The non-canon Weird Tale "Midnight Cowboy" showed an adventure Mac and the young Hellboy went on at the New Mexico base.

Trivia

• Biographical notes by Guillermo del Toro written for the 2004 film conceived of Hellboy being able to "talk" to Mac as a child, an ability that he would lose over the years.^[3]
